Selling grain to Five Star

Cash bids & futures

A cash bid is the current set price offered for a specific delivery period. This means a farmer can sell their grain today at the price offered by the buyer and reflect the local market conditions. Cash bids are straightforward and easy to understand, making them a popular option for farmers who prefer straight forward sales and less complexity.

Futures are agreements or contracts to buy or sell a specific quantity of grain at a predetermined price and date in the future. These contracts are standardized and traded on exchanges like the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT).

Customers can access cash bids and futures information through the Five Star Link Customer Portal or sign up for twice daily bid text messages.

Grain contracts

Grain contracts are legal agreements between farmers and buyers that set the terms for selling and delivering grain. They help manage price risk, reduce uncertainty, and make transactions smoother. With a contract, you can “lock in” a price months ahead of delivery—giving you more control over your bottom line.

Five Star Cooperative offers a variety of grain contracts to fit your operation, including the options below:

  • Offer Contract
  • Hedge-to-Arrive (HTA) Contract
  • Priced Contract
  • Basis Contract
  • Minimum-Priced Contract
  • Accumulator Contract
  • Deferred Payment Contract
  • Price Later Contract
  • Speciality Contract (Premium Offer, Min/Max, etc)

Grain procurement policies

Grain procurement policies are a set of guidelines and procedures that provide clear and transparent grain outlines of the terms and conditions for buying grain helping farmers reduce uncertainty.

Five Star Cooperative’s well-defined grain procurement policies benefit grain farmers by providing transparency, fairness, efficiency, and risk management tools in the grain marketing process.
